After spending the night in Police custody and arraigned in court on Tuesday, Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has been granted bail.

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos State, which gave Kuti bail,
also ordered the Police to finish their investigations into the alleged assault of a policeman by Kuti within 48 hours.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor S. A. Adebese had urged the court to remand Kuti in police custody for 21 days for further investigation.

He said the three weeks would enable the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to provide legal advice on the matter.

But Counsel to Kuto, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), objected to the prosecutor’s request and urged the court not to remand him.

“I’m not aware of an application to that effect,” he told the court.

Persecondnews recalls that Seun Kuti, son of the late legendary afro beat maestro, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti had on Monday, May 15 turned himself in at the State Police Command, Ikeja, following an order for his arrest by the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba over alleged assault of a police man in Lagos as captured in a video that went viral.

He had allegedly slapped an officer for hitting his vehicle from behind on the 3rd Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
