Music Executive and founder of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy, has described his altercation with famous rapper and owner of YBNL Records, Olamide at the 2015 edition of Headies Awards as regrettable, saying his action was out of his normal character.
Don Jazzy at the Headies reacted to Olamide’s claim that the Next Rated Award category ought to have been given to Lil Kesh and not Reekado Banks, an artiste who was signed under Mavin Records as of that time.
Things became controversial after Reekado Banks won the Next Rated category—which comes with a car prize.
Upon receiving the award, Banks, a protégé of producer Don Jazzy and member of the MAVINS crew, noted that some persons would be unhappy with his win.
Olamide was one of those unhappy persons. When his signee Adekunle Gold took the prize for Best Alternative Song, the rapper, with a cup presumably holding alcohol, expressed dissatisfaction with the Next Rated category.
He claimed Lil Kesh deserved the award based on a steady release of hits. He was cheered off stage as he slammed both microphone and cup on stage.
Thereafter, Don Jazzy, receiving a Special Recognition Award, said to Olamide, “If you want the car, come and collect it.”
But speaking about the infamous incident, Don Jazzy, on Saturday said he regretted his action that brought him into an altercation with Olamide, pointing out that it was not his character to have reacted in such manner.
“As soon as I got off the stage that day, I apologized to Olamide and the organisers of the award. That was one action I was not really proud of till today,” he said.
