Aftermath of Monday morning mayhem in some parts of Lagos in reaction to the victory of Mr Peter Obi, an Igbo man and Presidential candidate of Labour Party in Saturday’s election, armed soldiers have been deployed to restore peace and order in the state.

The soldiers were sighted on the streets of Lagos metropolis to stave off further attacks and maintain tranquility.

Mr Bola Tinubu, an indigene of the state and APC Presidential Candidate was beaten to the second place in the presidential poll by Obi, which political watchers described as a threat to several decades of political dominance of the state by Tinubu, a former governor in the Centre of Excellence.

Earlier in the day, hoodlums took to the streets in parts of Lagos damaging properties of people believed to Labour Party supporters.

In a counter-operation, soldiers with their armoured vehicles were seen at Mushin, Ikeja, Ebute Meta, Oshodi and Lagos Island among other places.

On Sunday, the Lagos Police Command had warned that attempts by anyone or group planning to wreak havoc in the state would be resisted.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the command, had tweeted: “Available intelligence suggests some people have concluded plans to foment trouble and wreak havoc.

“Kindly note that such attempts would be crushed decisively.

“Our election security architecture has not been drawn down. Anarchy will not be allowed! Remain law-abiding. Be guided!”
