Nnodu Azuka Kenrick, the General Overseer of Seraphic and Sabbath Assembly located in Lagos was at the weekend arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over a Dubai-bound 204 grams of Methamphetamine.
The cleric had concealed the hard drugs in four 25-litre kegs of palm oil as well as 283 parcels of skunk weighing 14.90kg.
Persecondnews reports that two members of the church — Oyoyo Mary Obasi and a theology student, Udezuka Udoka — were also arrested along with the self-styled “G-O”.
According to the NDLEA spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi, revealed the General Overseer has been recruiting those who “come to seek refuge in his church into drug trafficking after cajoling them to take oath of secrecy.
“Church General Overseer busted! You go to seek refuge in the House of God and there the shepherd recruits you into drug trafficking.
“High priest Nnodu was arrested on Saturday February 11, 2023, at his Seraphic and Sabbath Assembly Church, located at No 1, Sabbath close, Ijesha area of Lagos, following the arrest of two suspect.
“Oyoyo Mary Obasi and the theology student Udezuka Udoka on Thursday, February 9, at the Lagos Airport were arrested in connection with the seizure of 283 parcel of skunk weighing 14.90 kilograms and 204 grams methamphetamine concealed in four 25 litre kegs of palm oil for export to Dubai,” Babafemi said.
The spokesperson further revealed that Mary’s statement gave out how the clergyman and his son compelled her to undertake the task of illicit drug business.
“Mary said the clergyman and his son used threats to compel her to take the job after they know she had known their secret, adding that High Priest Nnodu was always referring to the illicit drug as ice and Holy Bible,” Persecondnews quotes Babafemi as saying.
