BREAKING: Owo Catholic Church attack: Perpetrators apprehended

The suspected perpetrators of the gruesome attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo in Ondo State which left more than 40 worshippers including children, dead have been apprehended.

The gunmen were arrested by a combined team of Army, Police and Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun on Thursday evening, Persecondnews reports.

Youths and adults stormed the streets of Owo particularly the palace of Olowo of Owo where the suspects were kept before transferring them to the State Police Command headquarters in Akure.

The youths were protesting the transfer of the criminals to Akure, fearing that they might escape justice.

A video of the massive protest has gone viral on the social media and traditional media.

 

On Thursday, the National Security Council had suggested that the Islamic State, West African Province (ISWAP) masterminded the deadly attack on the church on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this to State House correspondents, shortly after a three-hour council meeting presided over by the President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

Aregbesola, who addressed the media briefing in company of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, said security agencies are closing in on the perpetrators.
