Vigilante burnt to death over alleged blasphemy in Abuja

A member of a vigilance group in Lugbe area of Abuja has been burnt to death by a mob for alleged blasphemy.

The incident occurred while members of the vigilance group at the popular Timber Shed Market at the Federal Housing Estate (FHA) Lugbe in Abuja, arrested a resident for trespassing in the market in the early hours of Saturday,  Persecondnews gathered.

Other residents were reported to have begged the vigilantes to free the man but one of the vigilantes kicked against his release and made a comment believed to be “blasphemous”.

He was alleged to have said “even if God comes down”, he will not release the persons arrested to go home.

The comment provoked the other group, who brought down the vigilante office to rescue their man.

The group also reportedly attacked, killed, and set ablaze the vigilante personnel who made the “blasphemous” statement.

Meanwhile, security operatives have been deployed to the scene of the incident to restore peace and normalcy.
