Sensitive election materials not to be kept with CBN again, says INEC boss

Ahead of the June 18, 2022 Ekiti State Governorship polls, the lndependent National Electoral commission (INEC) says sensitive electoral materials will not be kept in the Central Bank

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, sensitive electoral materials will in the meantime no longer be routed through the CBN.

“Beginning with the Ekiti State Governorship election, INEC will not keep its sensitive materials with the CBN,” he said while responding to questions in an ongoing dialogue on Elections in Abuja.

Yakubu said the decision is to ensure that electoral materials lined up for the elections are not compromised.

Persecondnews recalls that lawyers and politicians had raised serious concerns about the sanctity of elections materials being kept with the CBN for polls after the CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, reportedly indicated interest to contest the presidential ticket of APC.
