After about two and a half decades, the ancient city of Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State will come alive on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, as the new Orimolusi, Oba Jaiyeola Adebajo, will be crowned amid pomp and splendor.
The monarch’s installation followed a letter from Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, confirming his appointment.
Arrangements are in top gear for a befitting and grand coronation ceremony which is expected to be graced by top government functionaries, captains of industry, first-class monarchs and distinguished sons and daughters of Ijebu-Igbo.
In May 1994, the last Orimolusi, Oba Sani Adetayo, joined his ancestors and the stool had remained unfilled since then.
Ijebu-Igbo, the headquarters of Ijebu North Local Government, is about 15 minutes’ drive from Ijebu-Ode and it is one of the biggest town in Ogun State.
According to a programme of events by the Chairman of the Orimolusi Coronation Committee, Otunba Femi Dinah, and given to Persecondnews, Oba Adebajo will make a “triumphant entry’’ into the town on Saturday, February 19 at 11.00 am and commence other traditional engagements.
On Wednesday, February 23, the coronation which includes presentation of staff of office by Ogun State Government at the Orimolusi Palace Ground at 10.00am while on Friday it will be rounded off with a Jumat service at the Ijebu-Igbo Central Mosque, Oke Sopen.
Also, a church service is slated for Sunday Feb. 27 at St. Peters Catholic Church, Oke Padi, Oke Sopen, at 10.00am, a statement by Jide Seun Fowode, the Special Adviser, Media and Strategy to the monarch, said.
