A former Abia Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, and his son, Chinedu, are now cooling their heels in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) net in Abuja.

Orji was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while the son turned himself in after the arrest of his father.

Orji, currently a senator, is being quizzed alongside his son, Chinedu, who is the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.

Persecondnews recalls that Orji and his sons, Chinedu have been under investigation by the EFCC for alleged misappropriation of public funds and money laundering of N551 billion while he was governor.

Orji was alleged to have embezzled the N500 million monthly security vote he received for eight years as governor from 2007 and 2015.

He is also being quizzed over the alleged mismanagement of N2 billion Ecological Fund and diversion of Sure-P funds under Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The EFCC spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, however, confirmed the former governor’s arrest.
