Chief of Army Staff Conference attendee, Maj.-Gen. Olubunmi Irefin, dies of COVID-19

The Nigerian Army has announced the fatality of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Port-Harcourt, Maj.-Gen. Olubunmi Irefin, from COVID-19 complications and has forced the closing of the Chief of Army Staff Conference in Abuja on Thursday.

The death of Irefun, an attendee of the weeklong conference, forced the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to announce the cancellation of the conference, saying an officer has “tested positive’’ for coronavirus.

Buratai immediately directed all the participants at the conference, comprising Principal Staff Officers, GOCs, Commandants of army schools, Commanders of army operations, among other participants to embark on 14 days isolation.
