A water tanker driver and his assistant have been dispatched to the Great Beyond for crushing five school children in Ebonyi State.
The children, who were pupils of St. Michaels Schools, Oshiri, from Amaokpara village were returning from school when the truck ran over them.
The accident has thrown the community into mourning.
Immediately after the accident, the driver and the conductor drove off in a futile escape bid.
Some youths in the area had launched a spirited manhunt for them and caught up with the truck at Onicha Igbeze, a neighbouring community.
Both the driver and the conductor were immediately lynched, a report said.
Contacted, the spokeswoman for the State Police Command, ASP Loveth Odah confirmed the incident, giving the names of the driver as Ewa Innocent, and the conductor as Ojim Danis.
