The Bayelsa State Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Monday nullified the election of Governor Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The nullification followed a petition by the Democratic Party (ANDP) and its candidate, King George, for being excluded from the November 16, 2019 Governorship poll
The tribunal held that the election was unlawful due to the exclusion of ADP and its candidate.
Consequently, it ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election within 90 days.
Meanwhile, Gov. Diri said he would appeal the ruling and has instructed his lawyers to go to court.
Diri, who spoke shortly after the judgment, expressed the hope of winning and implicit confidence in the judiciary to serve justice.
Persecondnews recalls that David Lyon of APC, who won the election, was sacked by the court on the eve of his inauguration as governor.
