Caught on the wrong side of the law for ravishing an underage girl, 60-year-old Mati Abdu is to die by multiple stoning, a Kano Shariah court has ruled.
Guilt-racked Abdu, who hails from Farsa village in Tsanyawa Council Area of Kano State, had forcefully had carnal knowledge of a 12-year-old girl in broad daylight under a tree at the village sometime in 2019.
The offence carries a death penalty under Section 126 of Kano State Sharia Penal Code 2000.
During trial, the prosecution counsel, Mr Badariya Shehu Bala, a lawyer, told the court that the convict committed the offence at 1.00p.m. under a tree where the girl slept at Farsa.
Abdu had pleaded guilty to the charge.
Handing down the verdict, Khadi Ibrahim Sarki-Yola of a Kano Upper Shariah Court said Abdu was guilty as charged since he had admitted guilt.
He sentenced him to death by stoning in accordance with Section 127 and subsection B of the State Sharia Penal Code 2000.
The convict was, however, given 30 days to appeal the judgment after which he would face the capital punishment.
