Tragedy has struck the medical community in Bayelsa as Dr. Ere Ogbachi, a registrar at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), passed away following the birth of her triplets.

While she successfully delivered the infants at NDUTH, sudden complications led to her transfer to the intensive care unit for specialized treatment.

Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement issued Wednesday by her brother, Meshack Sintei.

According to the family, despite the exhaustive efforts of the medical team to stabilize her, Dr. Ogbachi’s condition deteriorated, and she was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

“We watched her struggling to live and gasping for breath as the team of doctors tried their best to revive her,” the statement said.

The family described her death as a devastating loss, noting that she remained resilient throughout the ordeal.

“She was a fighter to the end and a generation has been lost, and the Sintei family mourns,” her brother said.

Prior to her passing, Dr. Ogbachi was an active member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and an alumna of Niger Delta University.

At the time of this report, hospital authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the tragic event.
