Lagos makes history, holds first-ever virtual court sitting

The Lagos State Judiciary recorded a novelty on Monday as the State Chief Judge, Justice Kazeem Alogba, led others to hold its first-ever virtual court sitting.In the virtual sitting, a judge of the court, Justice Mojisola Dada delivered judgment in the criminal trial of the State against one Olalekan Hammed.

PerSecondnews reports that the the proceedings which started at 11.00 am had many judges and lawyers watching online from different locations.

Some journalists were also invited to watch and report the proceedings.

Among the judges who hooked up to the proceedings online include Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye, Justice Josephine Oyefeso, Justice Sherifat Solebo, Justice Afeez Dabiri.

Other participants from the bar include the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo(SAN), the state prosecutor, Ms. Titilayo Shitta-Bey, and some senior advocates including Mrs Funke Adekoya, Mr Tayo Oyetibo, and Mr Olukayode Enitan.

The virtual proceedings became imperative to ensure continuity of court cases following the shut down of the courts by the Chief Justice of Nigeria as in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.Scores of lawyers and Nigerians joined the proceedings online.
