…raped before being killed
It is end of the road for two men in Osun State, Southwest, Nigeria who seized, killed and used a female final year student of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) for money ritual.
A high court sitting in Ikirun has ordered the men – Elijah Oyebode (25) and Jelili Raji (35) – to be taken before the hangman for terminating Rofiat Damilola Adebisi’s life.
The third accused, Yusuf Ajibade, was, however, acquitted of two counts charge of murder and conspiracy, but was sentenced to two years in jail for receiving stolen property.
Handing down the verdict, Justice Jide Falola said prosecution counsel had proven his case beyond reasonable doubts and therefore found Elijah Oyebode and Jelili Raji guilty of murder and conspiracy and sentenced them to death by hanging.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel from the State Ministry of Justice, Mr Kareem Adekilekun had told the court that Adebisi, student of Ipetu-Ijesa campus of UNIOSUN boarded a Golf car (Lagos FKJ 636 DL) driven by Mr Elijah Oyebode on December 22, 2016 and never got to her destination.
He said the following day her body was later found on Egbeda/Iragbiji Road and one Yusuf Ajibade was later arrested through the deceased iPhone which he sold to Quadri on the instruction of Elijah Oyebode.
Oyebode, in his confessional statement, said Jelili Raji had asked him to supply him a woman and gave him the charm to use to touch her, adding the girl will not resist the lure.
According to Adekilekun, he “successfully’’ handed over the late Rofiat Adebisi to Jelili Raji at his shrine and was paid N10,000.
In his evidence before the court, the Police officer attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Mr Adeyeye Simon said Elijah Oyebode was a commercial driver plying Akure-Owena road and that Oyebode and Yusuf Ajibade took the deceased to Raji’s house after Elijah had raped her.
The girl died at Raji’s house while Oyebode dumped her bodyon Egbeda -Iragbiji road, he told the court.
Another witness, Mr Olatomiwa Alade, a DSS official, said that a data report was obtained from DSS Headquarters, Abuja, while the deceased phone was traced to Kolapo Quadiri who said he bought the phone from Yusuf Ajibade, who acquired the phone from Oyebode.
The offences of conspiracy, murder and accessory after the fact of murder contravened Sections 316, 319, 322 and 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
