What You Need to Know About Robert O’Brien New U.S National Security Adviser

President Donald Trump recently appointed Robert C. O’Brien as the new U.S National Security Adviser, NSA.

 

Trump  revealed last week that he asked former NSA Bolton’s resignation because he “disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions,” although Bolton disputed Trump’s characterization and said he offered his resignation.

 

Mr. Robert O’Brien will be Trump’s fourth national security adviser in fewer than three years.

 

Just who is Robert C. O’Brien ?

 

He was a former U.S. hostage negotiator

 

He has been a foreign policy adviser to the campaigns of former Republican presidential candidates, including the 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

 

O’Brien was a Senior Legal Officer for the UN Security Council commission and was a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve. He is a co-founding partner of Larson O’Brien LLP in Los Angeles.

 

In 2017, he was under consideration to serve as Secretary of the Navy. Previously, O’Brien served as Co-Chairman of the U.S. Department of State Public-Private Partnership for Justice Reform in Afghanistan under State Secretaries Hilary Clinton and Condoleeza Rice.

 

Robert O’Brien was born in Los Angeles and graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, California. He then attended UCLA, graduating in 1988 with a political science degree. While at UCLA, O’Brien spent a year studying at the University of the Free State in South Africa as a Rotary Foundation Scholar and he is fluent in Afrikaans.
