Nine lawmakers of the Imo State House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) which has no lawmaker in the House.
Also, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Okey Onyekanma, has resigned.
According to reports, more lawmakers may still cross to APC.
The defection came against the backdrop of speculations that the new APC governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, might be impeached by the PDP, APGA and AA dominated House.
The defection started at 3:30 pm when the Speaker of the House, read the letters of the decampees on the floor of the House.
The Speaker, who announced the defectors, said the screening of the governor’s nominee for the State Attorney General, Mr Cyprain Akaolisa, should be done without delay.
