The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal Monday issued a landmark decision that serves to curtail the excesses of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The court said the EFCC does not have powers to investigate or prosecute serving judicial officers except where such officers have been dismissed by the National Judicial Council.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission last year took over investigation of allegations of corruption against some judges in the country from the Department of State Service.
A top operative of the commission in a report said that the commission took over the investigation of the judges, who were raided by operatives of the DSS following a directive by the President that the EFCC should do a painstaking investigation into the allegations.
