The Nasarawa State Police Command has dismissed claims that pupils of St. Peter’s Foundation Secondary School in Rukubi were abducted on Friday, describing the reports as baseless and misleading.

The panic began when students mistakenly identified armed hunters as kidnappers while heading to their Physical and Health Education classes.

“The report is mere rumour unworthy of publication as factual news,” said Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer.

He explained that the students, frightened by the sight of hunters carrying Dane guns, fled and were later escorted back to school by their teachers.

Police Commissioner Shetima Jauro Mohammed swiftly deployed a joint police and military team to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers.

The area was thoroughly combed, and normalcy was immediately restored,” Nansel said.

The school proprietor, Peters Ezegwoya, confirmed no abduction occurred, attributing the incident to panic.

Security forces continue to monitor the area to prevent breaches.

The police command urged the public to disregard the false reports and advised media outlets to verify information before publication.
