Tinubu Moves to Calm Tensions in Plateau with Envoy Deployment

The Federal Government has dispatched Dr Abiodun Essiet, a Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement in the North Central Zone to Plateau State to address recurring communal crises and promote intercommunal understanding.

Essiet’s mission aims to strengthen community-based peace structures and encourage coexistence among diverse communities in the state.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy in a statement, Essiet met with Christian clerics and Fulani Miyetti Allah community leaders during her two-day visit, culminating in a town hall meeting in Jos.

“The efforts culminated in a gathering of delegates from various local government areas, traditional rulers, women, and youth leaders to discuss ways to strengthen community-based peace structures and promote coexistence among diverse communities,” Onanuga stated.

Persecondnews reports that, Essiet also paid a courtesy visit to Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, Chairman of the Regional Church Council (RCC), in Barkin Ladi, discussing faith-based leadership and its role in promoting peace, unity, and social development.

She conveyed President Tinubu’s message of fostering ethnic reconciliation to widows and emphasized the need for dialogue and mutual understanding between pastoral and farming communities.

“Dr Essiet reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to peace and inclusive governance, noting that the Community-Based Peace Structure serves as a key instrument for grassroots unity, dialogue, and long-term stability in the North Central region,” Onanuga said.

Essiet also conducted a workshop on establishing a community peace structure for the 17 Local Government Areas in Jos and met with the Irigwe community, Miyetti Allah group, and youth representatives to sustain peace efforts.

A breakthrough in the peace initiative was achieved with the resolution of a conflict between David Toma, owner of Agha Farm, and some herdsmen.

Toma had seized two cows after his farm was destroyed, but MACBAN Chairman of Bassa LGA, Alhaji Isah Yau, paid N500,000 in compensation, and Toma released the cows, with all parties pledging to maintain peace.
