PSC Vindicates DIG, ACP, Others in Falsification, Wrongful Dismissal Cases

The Police Service Commission (PSC) says it concluded 24 appeal cases and one pending disciplinary case during its plenary meeting held over the weekend at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall.

In a statement released on Monday, October 20, the PSC announced its decision to dismiss a series of petitions against DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazhi Dali.

The complaints, which alleged a falsified date of enlistment and other record irregularities, were anonymously submitted by “concerned senior officers from Adamawa State” and were deemed “frivolous” by the commission.

Furthermore, the PSC ruled that a warning letter previously issued to DIG Dali—which did not originate from the commission—was null and void.

It also officially quashed the reversal of his date of birth from April 10, 1967, back to April 10, 1966, which had been done via signal.

The plenary also reviewed the compulsory retirement of ACP Ejiofor Grace Obiageli, which followed the tragic events of September 8, 2023, at Old Netim Division, Akamkpa, Cross River State.

The commission approved her “reinstatement from the date of her compulsory retirement and to be properly placed so as to be at par with her mates.”

In other decisions, the PSC “freed ACP Muhammad Awwal Yunusa from a punishment of severe reprimand,” restored the rank of CSP Ihekandu Allwell Okwuonu, and reinstated him, but subject to his date of retirement.”

Similarly, Clement Awoyemi got approval for the adjustment of his date of reinstatement, while Bamiselu Oluwaseun, Ahmed Monday, and Imoohi Doora were also reinstated.

Speaking after the plenary, the PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, said the commission would ensure disciplinary cases were handled swiftly to promote fairness and career progression.

“The Commission will henceforth ensure that pending disciplinary cases are treated with dispatch so that those found culpable are made to face the consequences, while those exonerated are freed to continue with their career progression.

“The Commission will not at any time impede the career progression of any officer who is not found guilty of any misdemeanour,” the DIG stated.

Meanwhile, at the start of its second plenary meeting on Thursday, October 16, the PSC approved the promotion of deserving police officers, including the appointment of a Deputy Inspector General of Police and the promotion of one Commissioner of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspector General.

Among other officers promoted were SP Omenihu Obinna, Commander, Anti-Cult Unit, Abia State Command; DSP Bankole Olajide Joseph, Commander, Bank Guard, Lagos State Command; Ede Stella Ukamaka, serving at Police Hospital, Awka, Anambra State; Omeife Bethrand Emeka, 45 PMF, Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Nnamdi Nwoba, O/C Surveillance, Ubakala Division, Abia State Command.

It was also stated that the commission confirmed the promotion of Adeyemi Adeola, Chief of Staff to the Chairman of one of the Task Forces in Lagos State to the next rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
