FCT Police to Residents: Stop Jungle Justice, Hand Suspects Over

795

The FCT Police Command has strongly condemned a recent act of jungle justice in Gwagwalada, where an angry mob severely beat a young woman suspected of stealing a two-year-old child.

Patrol officers from the Tungan Maji Division promptly rescued the victim on Monday, October 13, preventing the attack from escalating.

FCT Police Commissioner Ajao Adewale released a statement through Command spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh on Tuesday, October 14, sent to Persecondnews, warning residents that jungle justice is a criminal act that will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He stressed that taking the law into one’s own hands is unlawful and can result in the punishment of innocent individuals who may later be found blameless.

The CP urged residents to always report suspected criminal acts to the nearest police station for proper investigation rather than resorting to mob action.

The command said it has commenced a discreet investigation into the alleged child theft and will ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.

Adewale further warned that the Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in mob attacks, noting that such actions undermine the rule of law and ongoing efforts to ensure peace and security in the FCT.

Residents are advised to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and to report any suspicious movements or criminal activities through the following emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, 07057337653 or the Police Control Room at 09115629111.

The command reiterated that security is a shared responsibility and urges all residents to partner with the Police in maintaining a safe and lawful society.
