Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have secured a spot in the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

The team earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Colombia in their final Group F match, coming from behind to snatch a vital point.

Colombia took the lead in the 52nd minute through Kener Gonzalez’s clinical finish off a swift counterattack.

However, the Flying Eagles’ determination paid off when Daniel Bameyi scored a penalty in the 86th minute, sending the keeper the wrong way after a Colombian player handled the ball in the box.

The match was a thrilling encounter, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.

The Flying Eagles had three near-misses, with Daniel Daga, Suleiman Sani, and Tahir Maigana hitting the woodwork.

Despite dominating possession, Colombia struggled to capitalize on their chances, ultimately conceding the equalizer in the late stages of the game.

The draw saw the Flying Eagles finish third in Group F with four points, while Colombia topped the group with five points, and Norway finished second with the same number of points.

The Flying Eagles will face six-time U-20 World Cup winners Argentina in the Round of 16 on October 8.

Argentina topped Group D with nine points, scoring eight goals and conceding just two.

The South American giants have been in impressive form, winning all their group matches against Cuba, Australia, and Italy.

The Flying Eagles, however, are no strangers to upsetting Argentina, having stunned them 2-0 in the Round of 16 when the tournament was hosted by Argentina in 2001.
