LP Suffers Another Setback as Rep. Kama Quits

Rep. Nkemkanma Kama of the Labour Party (LP), who represents the Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, has formally resigned from the party.

In a letter to the party’s Ward Chairman in Amaze Ward, Ishiagu Community, Ivo Local Government Area, Kama stated that his decision was made after “extensive consultations with my immediate family, political associates, and well-wishers.”

The letter, dated July 16, 2025, went viral on social media on Tuesday, September 2.

The lawmaker, who won his seat during the last general elections under the Labour Party banner, expressed deep gratitude to the party’s leadership and members for their support, which helped him secure the victory.

“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Labour Party for the platform given to me to contest and win the last general election as the House of Representatives member under its banner.

“The trust and support of the party leadership and members have been instrumental in our journey so far, and I will forever cherish these relationships,” he wrote.

Kama highlighted the progress achieved with the party in advancing democratic ideals and promoting the welfare of his constituents, but noted that his resignation was a necessary step.

“After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that this step is necessary for the greater good of our people.

“My commitment to service, development, and the upliftment of our constituency remains unwavering, and I believe this decision aligns with the best interests of those we serve,” he added.

While he did not immediately disclose his next political destination, his resignation is expected to spark speculations in Ebonyi political circles, given his rising influence and active role in the National Assembly.

Kama assured his supporters that his passion for service remains strong, pledging to continue working for the people irrespective of party affiliation.

“I sincerely appreciate the support, camaraderie, and shared vision that defined my time in the Labour Party and I hope that we will continue to work as patriots in the pursuit of a better society. I wish the Labour Party continued success in its endeavours,” he concluded.

Though he did not disclose the party he will join, political observers believe his next move will be to join the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) which has consistently wooed him to join its ranks.

Persecondnews recalls that Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, had in December 2024, during the lawmakers’ empowerment program in his Amaeze Community, Ishiagu in Ivo local government area, openly urged him to join the APC.

Kama’s resignation from the party is one of the many recent defections across the country.

Persecondnews reported that Sen. Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), and Sen. Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South senatorial district, are among the lawmakers who have recently left the party, citing various reasons.
