FCT Traffic: CP Launches ‘Keep Traffic Moving’ Operation, Warns Officers Against Misconduct

906

The FCT Police Command has launched “Operation Keep Traffic Flowing” to ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the nation’s capital.

A new surveillance team has also been created to monitor all traffic officers, with strict orders to arrest any who violate the rules.

Police Commissioner Ajao Adewale announced the operation during a lecture for traffic officers on professionalism and service culture.

He condemned the dangerous and unprofessional practice of jumping into moving vehicles or grabbing a driver’s steering wheel, calling the actions “unacceptable” and “contrary to the ethics of policing.”

During the lecture, titled “Humanity First,” held on Saturday, Commissioner Adewale expressed his dissatisfaction with the current performance of traffic officers, emphasizing the need for a renewed commitment to their duty.

In a statement released on Sunday to Persecondnews by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner stressed that traffic flow is a key measure of a city’s civility and that traffic officers are often the public’s first impression of the police.

He warned them to maintain a high level of discipline and to avoid any unethical behavior that could negatively impact the public’s perception of the force.

The statement reads: “The CP, who personally toured the city during the previous week to observe traffic flow at peak hours, highlighted 30 key traffic hotspots across the FCT, including Wuse, Area 1 Roundabout, Jikwoyi, Karu, Kurudu, AYA, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Galadima, Dawaki, Kubwa, among others.

He tasked officers to ensure visibility at these points to guarantee free flow of traffic at all times.

The police boss charged them to raise their standards and deliver quality service by ensuring neat turnout, early presence at traffic points, effective management during peak periods, and prompt clearance of obstructions.

He further directed officers to clamp down on those in the habit of driving against traffic, as well as indiscriminate picking and dropping of passengers on the highways.

The statement also reads: “The CP enjoined members of the public to obey traffic regulations, respect traffic officers on duty, and desist from offering money or inducements to officers, as such acts are inappropriate and unlawful.

“While assuring residents of the FCT of sustained visibility and effective control at major traffic points, the CP urged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activity by contacting the Command through its emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938.”
