Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail following a court appearance in London over multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian international faces five counts of rape involving two women and an additional sexual assault charge against a third woman.

The alleged offences reportedly took place between 2021 and 2022, during his tenure at Premier League club Arsenal.

British police first received a report related to one of the rape allegations in February 2022, sparking an investigation that has now resulted in formal charges.

Partey, who stood silently with his hands behind his back in the dock at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, appeared calm and composed during Tuesday’s proceedings.

He was dressed in a black zip-up jumper as the charges were read out.

His legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, said in a statement: “Mr. Partey strongly denies all the allegations against him. He is determined to clear his name and welcomes the opportunity to do so through the legal process.”

The charges come just four days after Partey’s contract with Arsenal officially ended on June 30. Arsenal, who signed him for £45 million from Spanish club Atlético Madrid in October 2020, have chosen not to comment on the case.

A club spokesperson said: “The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case.”

Partey made 167 appearances for Arsenal over four seasons, contributing nine goals, including four in his final campaign.

A key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad, he was praised for his defensive solidity and midfield leadership.

He also earned 51 international caps for Ghana, becoming a prominent figure in African football.

With his legal future uncertain, Partey’s next professional steps remain unclear.

However, recent reports suggest that Spanish La Liga side Villarreal are considering a move for the midfielder.
