2027: Northern Governors Declare Support for Tinubu, Cite Gains in Infrastructure, Security

"What we find is an administration that has delivered meaningful results for our region despite facing significant national challenges. I make bold to say that the evidence of progress is visible across our region"

The Northern States Governors’ Forum, under the leadership of Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

This endorsement stems from the administration’s perceived progress in fulfilling key electoral promises made to the northern region.

Speaking at an interactive session hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna on Tuesday, Yahaya highlighted the administration’s achievements across various sectors, including infrastructure, security, energy, and agriculture.

Yahaya said the North’s overwhelming support for Tinubu in the 2023 elections was a strategic decision that has yielded tangible benefits.

He further noted that the administration has demonstrated steady progress despite facing significant economic and security challenges.

“Today, we gather not for empty rhetoric, but to examine those promises and assess the level of progress so far.

“What we find is an administration that has delivered meaningful results for our region despite facing significant national challenges. I make bold to say that the evidence of progress is visible across our region,” Yahaya said.

Persecondnews reports that several notable projects underscore President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to developing the northern region.

These include the ongoing construction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway, the Kano-Katsina-Maradi rail line, the rehabilitation of the Kaduna refinery, the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, and continued drilling activities in the Kolmani oilfields.

These initiatives are set to drive industrial growth and enhance energy security across Northern Nigeria.

Yahaya commended the federal government’s concerted efforts in tackling insecurity in the North, highlighting that over 300 bandit kingpins and terrorist commanders have been neutralized through coordinated operations and improved intelligence gathering.

He also lauded the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, describing it as a “generational breakthrough” for modernizing Nigeria’s pastoral economy.

While acknowledging the challenging impacts of the administration’s economic reforms, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate, Yahaya maintained that these policies are essential for long-term economic stability.

The governor reiterated that development is a collective responsibility, urging northern stakeholders to complement federal efforts through local investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

He also called on traditional and religious leaders to maintain their vital roles in community mobilization and peacebuilding, stressing that civil society and the private sector must remain constructively engaged.

“In 2027, we must reward performance and hard work, and by that measure, President Tinubu has earned our continued support,” Yahaya said, adding that the alliance between the north and south-west is a stabilizing force for Nigeria’s unity.
