The Berger area of Lagos, the entry point to the state, early on Saturday morning experienced a significant traffic disruption as security forces enforced a restriction of movement for the local government elections.

This measure brought both vehicular and human traffic to a standstill, effectively barricading access routes into the state.

The restriction, which began as early as 7.00am, left scores of commuters stranded and forced numerous vehicles to turn back at the usually bustling interchange.

A combined team of police officers and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel were on-site, ensuring compliance, with military personnel also seen patrolling the area.

The roadblocks led to long queues of stationary vehicles, prompting many passengers to disembark and trek considerable distances to reach their destinations.

Several residents expressed frustration and surprise, claiming they had been unaware of any movement restrictions despite the ongoing elections.

Passengers, explaining their predicament, said they are unaware of the council elections holding today.

Persecondnews recalls that the Lagos State Police Command had announced the restriction of movement from 6am to 3am to ensure the peaceful conduct of the elections, which will produce new political officials for the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
