NOC Women’s Commission Launches 2nd National Sports Seminar

The Nigeria Olympic Committee’s Women’s Commission has announced the launch of its 2nd National Sports Seminar, expanding its scope to include female referees, umpires, and technical officials.

In a statement by the NOC Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya on Friday, sent to Persecondnews, building on the success of the first edition, the seminar series aim to promote capacity building in sports and empower women in leadership roles within Nigeria’s sporting structure.

The seminar series will kick off in the North West zone from July 9 to July 11, 2025, at the Business School, CBN Centre of Excellence, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.

The North Central leg will follow immediately after, from July 14 to July 16, 2025, at the University of Jos.

Seasoned sports administrators, coaches, and technical experts will deliver lectures and facilitate workshops for participants.

According to the NOC, the seminar aligns with the global push for greater gender equity in sports governance, as advocated by bodies like the International Olympic Committee.

Persecondnews reports that the initiative seeks to elevate women into leadership roles, promoting inclusivity and diversity in Nigeria’s sports sector.

The President of NOC, Engr. Habu Gumel, will declare the event open while Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, Secretary of the Commission, is the coordinator of the project.

The Women’s Commission extends an open invitation to all women in the Nigerian sports sector to participate in this valuable opportunity for professional development.

Seminars schedule:

– North West Zone: July 9-11, 2025, at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria

– North Central Zone: July 14-16, 2025, at the University of Jos

– Remaining zones: North East, South South, South East, and South West in August 2025, with dates and venues to be announced.
