Ahead of Elections, Presidential Hopeful Shot in the Head in Brazen Attack

1.2k

A Colombian presidential candidate, Miguel Uribe Turbay, 39, was shot three times, reportedly twice in the head, during a campaign event in the capital on Saturday.

The attack occurred as Uribe addressed a small crowd in a park.

Local media reports indicate that police arrested a 15-year-old suspect at the scene.

Following the incident, Uribe’s wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, urged the nation to pray for his survival, stating, “Miguel is currently fighting for his life. Let us ask God to guide the hands of the doctors who are treating him.”

Uribe’s Centro Democratico party swiftly condemned the attack, asserting that it endangers “democracy and freedom in Colombia.”
