Tinubu Submits Rivers’ N1.48trn Budget to NASS

President Bola Tinubu has submitted a N1.48 trillion budget proposal for Rivers State to the National Assembly.

This action was taken on behalf of the Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.

Tinubu said this step became imperative because the Supreme Court had nullified the budget previously presented to an “illegitimate faction” of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He also cited the ongoing emergency rule in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara as reasons for his intervention.

Ibas was sworn in by President Tinubu on March 19, 2025, following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, Persecondnews recalls.

Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly were all suspended for six months due to a political stalemate.

This deadlock stemmed from a dispute between the governor and his estranged political godfather, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the lawmakers.

Giving the breakdown of the budget, Tinubu said ₦324bn would be spent on infrastructure.

He said ₦166bn would be expended on health while ₦75.6bn is voted for education and ₦31.4bn would go for agriculture.

While urging the National Assembly to pass the budget, Tinubu said agriculture alone was projected to create about 6,000 jobs.
