Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Drops to 23.71% in April 2025

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate has slightly decreased to 23.71 percent in April 2025, down from 24.23 percent in March, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The NBS announced the decrease in its consumer price index (CPI) report on Thursday, noting that the movement for April 2025 “headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 0.52% compared to the March 2025 Headline inflation rate.”

The NBS further explained that “the rate of increase in the average price level is lower than the rate of increase in the average price level in March 2025,” with a month-on-month headline inflation rate of 1.86%, which is 2.04% lower than the rate recorded in March 2025 (3.90%).

The food inflation rate in April 2025 was 21.36% on a year-on-year basis, down by 19.27% compared to the rate recorded in April 2024 (40.53%).

On a month-on-month basis, the Food inflation rate in April 2025 was 2.06%, down by 0.12% compared to March 2025 (2.18%).

The NBS attributed the decrease to the rate of decrease in the average prices of certain food items.

Regionally, Benue recorded the highest food inflation rate on a year-on-year basis at 51.76%, while Ebonyi recorded the slowest rise at 7.19%.

On a month-on-month basis, Benue recorded the highest food inflation rate at 25.59%, while Ebonyi recorded a decline of -14.43%.
