Zone 7’s Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Victor Olaiya, has charged FCT Police Commissioner Ajao Adewale to prioritize peace and stability in the nation’s capital, emphasizing that as the nation’s seat of government security can’t be compromised.

Given Adewale’s recent assumption of duty as the 33rd Commissioner in the FCT, this directive underscores the importance of maintaining law and order in the territory.

Persecondnews recalls that Adewale took over from AIG Olatunji Disu on March 26, 2025.

“This command is where the first and second families of the Federation reside, plus diplomats. We cannot afford to let anything go wrong,” the AIG said during an inspection visit to the FCT Police Command on Wednesday in Abuja.

Persecondnews reports that Olaiya, the former Kwara State Police Commissioner, was among the newly promoted AIGs by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The AIG promised that he would look into the requests presented by Adewalewith a view to exploring improvement of personnel and equipment.

He said: “I have taken note of the prevalence of hard drugs in the FCT; we will work with the command to see ways we can reduce it to a manageable level. We now have a day mapped out for celebrating the Nigeria Police; it is a thing of pride to us.

“We should know that our performance will always be judged based on the crime rate in our command. If it is low, it means we are doing our job, but if it is high, it indicates otherwise. We must live up to expectations.

“The FCT Police Command is doing great but we must remember that the reward for hard work is more hard, so we should not relent. The action of any police officer, whether good or bad, reflects on the whole force, so I urge all of you to exhibit good behavior and represent the force well wherever you are.

“I urge senior police officers to closely supervise their teams and ensure they deliver on their responsibilities and to the officers, continue doing your best; we see you and we appreciate you.”

Olaiya, who also inspected a guard of honour on his arrival, advised the officers to always accord traditional rulers in their jurisdiction the respect due to them.

In his response, CP Adewale thanked Olaiya for choosing to pay his maiden visit to the command, promising to put the necesary security aparatuses in place to secure the nation’s capital.

He said just like Olaiya, he is also new in his position but that he was settling down to brass tacks to ensure that everythig works well.

Adewale said that since his assumption of duty, the command has apprehended criminals, recovered stolen vehicles, and busted five ‘one-chance’ cab operators along with their firearms.

Prior to his current position, AIG Olaiya, who was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1992, had served in various capacities within the Force, including Directing Staff at the Police Staff College, Jos, Plateau State,
Staff Officer, Inspector General of Police Secretariat (IGP-SEC). DPO in several divisions in Oyo state, among others.

He was also the team leade,r General Investigation Section, Force Criminal Investigation (FCID), Abuja. Area Commander Gboko, Benue State, Assistant Commissioner of Police Department of Finance and Administration, Nasarawa Police Command. Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Investment, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Olaiya was until his elevation to AIG, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command and a member of Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM) as well as the International Association of Chiefs of Police (Chicago), USA.

He is also a recipient of many certificates of Commendation and Awards for bravery, hard-work, and selfless service.
