U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier: Flamingos Battle Algeria

Nigeria’s U17 girls, Flamingos, are intensifying preparations for their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup final qualifying round match against Algeria.

The team, led by Head Coach Bankole Olowookere, has been in camp at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, ahead of the crucial first leg clash scheduled for this weekend, April 19.

The Flamingos have been in excellent form, thrashing South Africa’s Bantwana 5-1 on aggregate in the previous round. Algeria, on the other hand, suffered a 2-1 reverse in their first leg against Botswana but bounced back with a 4-0 win in the return leg.

Persecondnews reports that the Algerian team is expected to arrive in Lagos on Wednesday evening, April 16 ahead of the match.

The first leg match between Nigeria and Algeria will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.

The match officials, led by Ugandan referee Shamirah Nabadda, are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Thursday.

The return leg is scheduled for Friday, April 25, at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, Algeria.

The winner on aggregate will qualify for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco.

The FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled for October 17 to November 8, 2025, in Morocco, will feature 24 nations, with Africa represented by five teams, including host nation,ll Morocco.
