For allegedly kidnapping two reverend fathers, a congregant of Catholic Dioceses Yola and Jalingo in Adamawa State has been apprehended by the Police.

The 34-year-old suspect, Tahamado Jonathan Demian, was picked up by operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command for kidnapping the two reverend fathers — Abraham Samman and Matthew David Dusami.

According to the Command’s spokesman Suleiman Nguroje, the search process leading to the uncovering of the suspect started last month.

Nguroje said:“The command carried out coordinated rescue operations in and around a particular criminal hideout situated at a remote side of Gwaida Malam village connecting part of Numan and Demsa LGAs.”

He said in a statement on Sunday morning that the operations, commenced from February 21, 2025, yielded positive results as police operatives finally laid their hands on the suspect.

“The suspect was apprehended and now taking into custody for discreet investigation.”

He disclosed that investigation so far had led to the recovery of one locally fabricated assault rifle and a handset and sim cards.

He said the command had also successfully rescued the two reverend fathers unhurt and no money was paid as ransom but that they had to be taken to hospital for medical attention.
