Kenya’s Edwin Kibet Koech has emerged victorious in the men’s division of the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, taking home the coveted $50,000 first-place prize, reports Persecondnews.

Koech’s win marks his second title in the event, following his triumph in the 2023 edition.

He completed the 42km race in a record 2 hours and 14 minutes.

The 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon saw approximately 37,000 runners participate in the 10km and 42km races.

The event, which started in 2016, has entered its 10th year with a World Athletics gold label.

Organizers are now aiming to achieve the platinum label, which would make it the first marathon race in Africa to attain this status.

The marathon commenced with the 42km race starting at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, at 6:30 am, while the 10km marathon began at the Grace Garden Event Centre in Lekki at 9:30 am.

Both races terminated at Eko Atlantic City. To facilitate the event, the Lagos State Government had announced an eight-hour road closure and traffic diversion along identified routes between 5 am and 1 pm.
