Power outage hits Ogun State: IBEDC leaves Abeokuta, Sango-Ota in darkness for two weeks

1.4k
Residents in several Ogun communities expressed frustration on Saturday over a prolonged power outage that has left them in darkness for nearly two weeks.
The affected communities are calling on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to take immediate action to restore electricity and address the persistent power supply issues plaguing the area.
Electricity consumers in the affected areas have expressed indifference to the recent picketing by labour unions on Thursday, which disrupted power supply.
According to residents, the disruption had little impact on their lives, as they had already been experiencing prolonged power outages before and after the picketing took place.
A resident of Agbeloba area, an office complex of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Pa Tunde Okubanjo said they have not been enjoying electricity for about two weeks.
“This total blackout is posing a serious  security threat in the city as there are reported cases of burglary.
“It is surprising that IBEDC cannot fix the fault on its system for weeks,” he told Persecondnews on telephone.
Other areas affected are Quarry Road, Onikolobo, Ibara, Idi Aba, Sokori, Omida, Ijeja, Adigbe, Akin Olugbade and Oba Lipede and Kuforiji estates.
Residents of the commercial city of Sango-Ota near Lagos expressed dismay that adjoining communities under the Ikeja Disco enjoy electricity while they are in perpetual darkness, courtesy IBEDC.
Businesses have been paralyzed as a result of the power outage.
Business owners complained that they have been buying petrol to power their generators to preserve their beverages and other perishable commodities before selling them.
They have, therefore, sent a Save-Our-Souls to the Federal Government and the regulatory agency to intervene without further delay.
