President Bola Tinubu has signed a bill establishing the NorthCentral Development Commission (NCDC), a move aimed at driving development in the region.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the signing of the bill during Tuesday’s plenary session in the Senate chamber.

The NCDC is expected to facilitate economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare programmes across the North-Central states.

This move aligns with the government’s broader efforts to address regional disparities and boost development nationwide.

Akpabio congratulated the people of the North-Central region, wishing them more development and peace as the country forges ahead in nation-building.

In addition to the NCDC bill, Tinubu also signed bills establishing the Federal Polytechnic, Rano, Kano State, and the Federal University of Health Sciences in Tsafe, Zamfara State.

Persecondnews reports that the president’s assent comes a day after he signed a bill establishing the Federal University of Environmental Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State.

During the signing ceremony, Tinubu emphasized the institution’s role in
addressing environmental issues in Ogoni and expanding educational opportunities in the Niger Delta.

“For decades, the Ogoni people have been at the forefront of the fight for environmental restoration and sustainable development, shaping both national and global conversations on these critical issues,” Tinubu said.

The Ogoni people have been vocal about environmental degradation caused by oil exploration, and the new university is expected to play a crucial role in addressing these concerns.
