Updated: Sowore at Police CID, rejects bail conditions, accuses Police of impunity

Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and former presidential candidate, who honoured police invitation in Abuja on Monday, has rejected bail conditions given him by the police, opting to remain in custody instead.

Omoyele Sowore has been summoned for questioning by the authorities, facing allegations that include resisting and obstructing public officers, disobeying lawful orders, and cyberstalking.

However, Sowore claims that the police investigation is based on unverified information sourced from the internet.

Moreover, he asserts that the police failed to specify the exact location in Lagos where the alleged offense took place.

“I chose not to provide a written statement, as we informed the Police team that, in the absence of a defined crime, the process to determine such was unnecessary,” Sowore said.

The activist maintained that the matter revolves around his publicly stated view that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had his tenure extended illegally.

Sowore said:”I am prepared to face any consequences… I will not agree to conditions that compromise my innocence, dignity, and integrity.”

He told the DIG that he would not accept bail conditions that compromise his rights, saying, “If such unreasonable conditions are imposed, I will choose to remain in detention until I am charged to court.”

Persecondnews recalls the police had requested Sowore to report for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10 am.
