The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ruled that Julius Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour Party(LP).
A three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Hamma Barka, reaffirmed Abure’s position on Friday, upholding their previous judgment of November 13, 2024.
The court confirmed that this decision still remains in effect, as it has not been overturned or reversed by any other court.
Justice Barka made this declaration in the ruling on two separate appeals filed by Sen. Esther Nenadi Usman, the caretaker committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).
The court declared that it didn’t delve into the Labour Party leadership issue, as matters of this nature are not justiciable.
The court ruled that any action taken outside of its jurisdiction is null and void.
Consequently, the judgment delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite on October 8, 2024, was struck out for lack of jurisdiction.
Barka held: “We cannot say this appeal fails or succeed because the lower court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit in the first place.”
In dismissing the suit, the Appeal Court reaffirmed its previous judgment, which declared that “Abure remains National Chairman of the Labour Party.”

The party then set up a 29-member caretaker committee, with former Finance Minister, Sen. Esther Nenadi Usman as chairman and Mr. Darlington Nwokocha as secretary.
