Liverpool secured an impressive 6-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur in north London, with Mohamed Salah making history by becoming the first player to hit double figures for both goals and assists before Christmas.
Salah scored twice and recorded two assists in the win, which moves Liverpool four points clear at the top of the standings at Christmas.
Salah’s impressive performance was complemented by goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai, as Liverpool put on a clinical display in front of goal.
Tottenham’s James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke were also on target, but Liverpool were largely in control of the contest throughout.
Despite the convincing win, Salah acknowledged that Liverpool’s defence needs to improve, stating, “We were quite good in front, but defensively, I think we need to improve as a team—not just individually.”
Salah also praised Tottenham’s style of play, saying, “They have the way they play… It’s quite intense, and you can see [Manchester] City came here and struggled, and some other teams came here and struggled.”
Salah’s historic achievement sees him move up to fourth on the all-time list of Liverpool goalscorers.
When asked about breaking Ian Rush’s record, Salah joked, “I don’t know how he scored that many goals, to be fair… He’s a great legend for the club, and we have a good contact.”
