The highly anticipated Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh.

The match, which was scheduled to kick off at 12:30 pm on Saturday at Goodison Park, was called off due to severe weather and high winds that have caused travel chaos and disruption in and around Merseyside.

The clash is the last Merseyside derby to be held at Goodison Park before Everton move into their new £760 million stadium at Bramley Moore Dock next season.

The decision to postpone the match was taken by local authorities, including Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, following a Safety Advisory Group meeting at Goodison Park.

The authorities cited the risk to safety in the local area and the amber severe wind warning that remains in place until 6 am on Sunday as the reasons for the postponement.

Storm Darragh has brought strong winds of up to 92 mph, causing widespread disruption and damage across the country.

The Met Office has issued a rare “danger to life” red wind warning for parts of Wales and south-west England, with three million people in the affected areas receiving emergency alerts on their phones.
