After several months of being declared wanted, the immediate past Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, has honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged misappropriation of funds.

Bello arrived at the EFCC office on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his lawyers, following the Supreme Court judgment that dismissed states’ suit on the constitutionality of the anti-graft agency.

The former governor’s decision to honour the EFCC’s invitation comes after a long-standing battle to evade the commission’s summons.

Persecondnews recalls that Bello had previously declined the EFCC’s invitation for interrogation, prompting the commission to seek a court order to compel his appearance.

However, with the Supreme Court’s judgment, Bello has finally turned himself in to the EFCC’s invitation.

At the last hearing on November 14, the EFCC had sought an adjournment until November 27 in the fresh case it instituted against Bello, citing that the 30-day window was still running for the summons earlier issued.

The EFCC had also arraigned Bello’s co-defendants, Abdulsalam Hudu and Umar Oricho, in a N110.4 billion fraud case, with the court dismissing their oral bail applications.
