The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State expressed concerns on Saturday about what it called irregularities in the ongoing local government election in the state, specifically citing the distribution of two result sheets per polling unit instead of one and the delayed deployment of election materials.
The party also raised concerns about the credibility of the election due to the late distribution of materials.
To address this issue, the party has requested an extension of the voting time, originally scheduled to end at 2 pm, to ensure that all eligible voters can cast their ballots.
Persecondnews gathered that election officials were still collecting materials from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission office in Abeokuta, the state capital, at 7:32 am, just before the scheduled 8 am starting time.
Oladipupo, who spoke to journalists about the election process’ integrity, cited irregularities that could compromise its legitimacy.
He pointed out that the existing flaws would deprive numerous citizens of their right to vote.
Oladipupo said: “Imagine somebody that is going to Ogun Waterside. Do you think they will get to their destination on time, having slated the election for 8:00 am? I doubt the credibility of the election.
“We want the time to be extended so that voters can vote. Secondly, they should ensure that the results are declared at the polling units.
“From the ward collation centre down to the local government collation centre, they should declare the party that wins.”
