The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a remarkable revenue generation of N5.7 trillion, surpassing its 2024 revenue target of N5.07 trillion.

The collection reached a total of N5.7 trillion as of November 12, 2024, according to the Comptroller-General, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi.

Adeniyi announced this at the ongoing 2024 Comptroller-General of Customs Conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

He attributed the service’s success to its strategic engagements and collaborative approaches, which yielded remarkable results across its core statutory responsibilities.

The customs boss expressed optimism about the service’s capacity to achieve more for the economy.

In terms of trade facilitation, the NCS has made significant strides. Six beneficiaries have been selected for the Authorised Economic Operators programme, while 21 requests have been processed under an advance ruling programme aimed at fostering quicker customs decision-making.

“Our strategic engagements and collaborative approaches have yielded remarkable results across our core statutory responsibilities.

“I am pleased to announce that, as of 12 November 2024 at exactly 13:10 Hrs, the NCS hit its 2024 revenue target of NGN 5.07tn, collecting NGN 5.079tn with more than a month remaining in the fiscal year,” Adeniyi said.

The Comptroller-General also highlighted the service’s progress in reducing dwell time at ports, thanks to its time release study, which advances the drive toward 24-hour cargo clearance.

Adeniyi has also praised Operation Whirlwind, a collaborative effort to reduce fuel smuggling.
