A devastating explosion shook the city of Jos on Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves and panic through surrounding communities.

The blast occurred about 10:30 a.m. near the densely populated Terminus market area, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as “terrifying,” with people running and screaming for safety.

“I was nearby when I heard a loud bang,” said an eyewitness.

“I saw people running and screaming. It was terrifying.” Gyang Buba, a clothes vendor, confirmed the incident, adding that the explosion sent shockwaves through the area.

According to initial reports, the blast injured several people, and some sources speculate that there may have been fatalities.

However, the extent of the damage remains unclear.

Emergency services, including the police, fire department, and ambulance teams, rushed to the scene to provide assistance.

The Jos police command headquarters confirmed the incident and announced the start of an investigation.

“The area has been cordoned off as investigators begin to assess the situation. We are working to determine the cause of the explosion,” a security source said.

“We urge calm and assure the public that we will do everything possible to ensure their safety.”

The incident has heightened security concerns in Jos, which has experienced periodic violence and unrest in recent years.

Residents are calling on authorities to increase security measures in the area.

“We are worried about our safety,” said a local resident, adding, “the government needs to do more to protect us.”
