Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign has announced that she won’t be addressing supporters on election night as her chances of winning the presidency dwindle.
“We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet,’’ Harris campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said in the early hours of Wednesday.
He added: “We will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted.
“That every voice has spoken. So you won’t hear from the vice president tonight. But you will hear from her tomorrow.”
Harris had planned to spend the last day of voting with family, having dinner at her Washington residence before joining an election watch party at Howard University, her alma mater.
However, the evening took a different turn as Donald Trump gained momentum, with U.S. broadcasters declaring North Carolina and Georgia in his favour, signalling a potential return to the White House for the former president.
