In a thrilling match commemorating Mr. Olufemi Soneye’s 50th birthday, Team FS Fifty secured a 2-1 victory over Jay Jay Okocha’s FS Legends at the Meadow Hall School football pitch in Lagos.
The highly contested and tension-soaked encounter saw Okocha’s team, featuring ex-internationals Kanu Nwankwo, Joseph Yobo, Ifeanyi Udeze, Julius Agahoawa, and Peter Rufai, dominating the flanks.
Yobo opened the scoring in the first half with a goal assisted by Victor Ikpeba’s through ball.
However, Team FS Fifty equalized just before halftime with a stunning goal that caught the ex-internationals off guard.
The turning point came when Femi Soneye, playing as a false nine, earned a penalty in the final third and successfully converted it, securing the winning goal in the second half.
“I played him as a false nine due to his utility ability,” said Dr. Robinson Okosun, Head Psychologist Unit, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“His runs into the box would cause headaches for his opponent.”
In a post-game chat with Persecondnews, Kanu Nwankwo praised Soneye as a “special person.”
“And that is why we are here to celebrate with him; I wish him all the best and God’s blessings.
“The game was great; we lost 2-1. The birthday boy scored the winning goal, so we didn’t want to spoil his show.”
Yobo expressed delight at scoring alongside friends, emphasizing the celebration of Soneye’s golden jubilee.
Popular Nigerian galala singer, Daddy Showkey, boasting about Soneye’s Ajegunle roots, told Persecondnews sports correspondent: “We have that zeal to excel, no matter where we go. The brotherhood from AJ binds us together.”
