Kcee and Flavour engage in heated exchange over Igbo music style

1.4k

The Nigerian music industry is once again witnessing a brewing fiery clash between two celebrated artistes, Kcee and Flavour, over accusations of copying musical style.

Kcee recently hit back at Flavour after the latter criticized his performance, labelling it as “Copy Copy Akaria,” which translates to copying another person’s musical style.

Kcee, known for his hits that blend modern sound with Igbo cultural elements, did not take Flavour’s remarks lightly.

In a bold response, he asserted that no one owns the genre, urging Flavour to stop trying to “gatekeep Igbo culture” and insisting that the music belongs to everyone.

“You’re not a custodian of Igbo music,” Kcee fired back, challenging Flavour’s authority to define who should or should not be seen as an authentic representative of Igbo culture,” he said.

Kcee went on to highlight his longstanding presence in the industry, reminding Flavour, “I’ve been in this game before you.”

The singer emphasized that his music celebrates the Igbo’s heritage unapologetically, standing firm against accusations of imitation.

“My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologize for that,” Kcee declared, stressing his commitment to bringing Igbo culture to the forefront of Nigeria’s music scene.

In a striking comment, Kcee urged Flavor to “pick your battles carefully” and noted that “people recognize authenticity.”

Kcee didn’t stop there; he appeared to compare himself to an ocean, while likening Flavour to “a small needle” within it.

“In an ocean of things that matter, you’re like a needle,” he said.

The exchange has generated buzz, with fans taking sides on social media, debating who is the true custodian of Igbo culture in music.

Many agreed with Kcee’s stance on inclusivity, arguing that music should remain accessible to anyone passionate about celebrating their heritage.

Kcee wrapped up his remarks by advising Flavour to channel his energy into personal success instead of trying to undermine his achievements.

“Spend your energy on success, not diminishing mine,” he said.
